SBT - ICT
Since 2002, the SBT has focussed on developing different kinds of score presentation systems for players, audience and officials using the newest technology. The internet was an important tool for this project.
Up to date laptops replaced the traditional score sheets and modern LCD screens replaced simple scoring devices.
In 2006 SBT achieved a major break through. Her Information & Communication Technology Team (ICT Team) supported the organizers of the Europe Cup in Seville, and the World Badminton Championships in Madrid. During the last event touchscreen handheld computers were introduced for umpires replacing the paper score sheets. These computers were directly linked to the internet. LCD screens were placed in corridors, VIP room as service to audience, media, players and officials, also a press centre and internet café were made available.
After the successful presentation at the World Badminton Championships, more and more Associations became interested in using the possibilities and facilities of the SBT.
We also started the technical support of the betting company Bwin. As a result Badminton Europe could sign a lucrative contract with Bwin.
The cooperation between Bwin, Badminton Europe and SBT is a bigger success than expected. Every year more than 20 organizers in Europe now make use of the support of the ICT team. The quality of support was also noticed by YONEX. The next step was obvious: bringing together the high quality products of both YONEX and ICT Team. This new partnership became effective at the 1st of May 2008 when both parties agreed to support each other for the next 5 years aiming to deliver a high standard presentation for audience, media, players and officials at events. The ICT Team and its equipment are now carrying the famous YONEX logo and name; The Yonex ICT Team.
